Directory trusts are trusts that only generally defined by the trust document. They are not finally settled by the instrument creating it, but only defined in its general purpose. Such trusts are funded and administered by later specific directions which are given later.

Directory trusts can also refer to trusts in which the trustee is not allowed to exercise any discretion over the trust’s management or distributions.
