Least Restrictive Alternative (Guardianship)

The term ‘least restrictive alternative’ when used in the context of guardianship refers to a course of action or an environment that allows the ward to live, learn, and work with minimum restrictions on him/her. In following this course of action, a ward is provided a kind of setting which places minimal limits on the ward’s rights and personal freedoms so as to enable the ward to meet his/her personal needs.
