Onerous trusts are trusts which place exceptionally heavy and time-consuming duties of responsibility and care on the trustee. Often the trustees are not compensated for the same. Courts often grant a trustee a reasonable sum for the tasks performed because of the burden and inequity of requiring the trust to be administered voluntarily.
